Macau lawmaker José Pereira Coutinho has filed complaints with the financial authority, alleging that several residents suffered losses exceeding 208 million patacas – MOP – (€22.1 million) after purchasing financial products from a local bank.
The lawmaker — the only Portuguese national in the Legislative Assembly of the Chinese semi-autonomous region — told Lusa he is “interceding between the parties” involved, but that it was not “appropriate to publicly disclose the banking institution.”
Coutinho filed an official complaint with the Macau Monetary and Financial Authority on Tuesday, in the presence of one of the complainants, Jay Chun, chairman of Paradise Entertainment Limited, a local company that produces electronic gaming equipment and systems.
According to the lawmaker, the complainants are seeking compensation.
