Real Sociedad qualified on Wednesday for the Copa del Rey final for the seventh time, beating Athletic 1-0 at home in the second leg of the semi-finals.
After the 1-0 win at San Mamés, thanks to a goal from Beñat Turrientes in the 62nd minute, the side managed by American Pellegrino Matarazzo won at Anoeta through a Mikel Oyarzabal penalty in the 87th minute.
Portuguese international Gonçalo Guedes also celebrated, having featured in the match before being substituted in stoppage time at 90+3 minutes.
Real Sociedad, who eliminated the competition’s second most decorated club — Athletic have 24 titles against record holders FC Barcelona’s 32 — are chasing their third title, after those won in 1986/87 and 2019/20.
Their first triumph came against Atlético de Madrid, won 4-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw at the end of extra time in Zaragoza.
Now the Basque side will face the Colchoneros again, who are heading to their 20th final in search of their 11th title, after losing 3-0 at FC Barcelona on Tuesday following the 4-0 home defeat in the first leg.
