Isaac dos Anjos delivered this message during the opening of the advisory council for the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. He reported that of approximately 3.5 million households engaged in agricultural activities, assistance was provided to 1.1 million, representing only 39.1% of existing agricultural households.

“Nonetheless, the production data for the 2024/2025 agricultural year indicated a trend of progressive increase, with a total growth of 8.6% compared to the previous year,” he emphasized. The Angolan official stressed the necessity to mitigate recurring droughts exacerbated by climate change, stating, “It is imperative to ensure water availability for irrigation.”

He reiterated the government’s commitment to continue ongoing projects and implement new initiatives for the rehabilitation and construction of irrigated areas. With 35 million hectares of arable land, Angola currently exploits six million hectares, about 17%, with only 2% irrigated.

The government also promised efforts “to adopt the best solutions to ensure efficient and sustainable management of all these infrastructures.” According to the Minister, the government aims to reestablish the rapid alert service and operationalize the Food and Nutritional Security Rapid Information and Alert System (SISAN).

A preliminary survey conducted by the Office for Studies, Planning, and Statistics (GEPE) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry regarding the rainfall situation during the initial phase of the 2025/2026 agricultural year indicated that, to date, 33.3% of provinces (seven in total) reported normal rainfall.

The results showed that eight provinces experienced low rainfall, while six others reported a lack of rain, with no region indicating excessive precipitation. Data presented by GEPE Director-General Anderson Jerónimo revealed that manual labor continues to dominate agricultural activity (66%), with mechanization at 6% and 28% using animal traction or small tools.

In the past agricultural year, maize remained the leading crop, while rice production was notable, with approximately 51,500 tons produced, and sunflower at 9,000 tons, attributed to private investment in the energy sector. Angola is self-sufficient in the production of cassava, sweet potatoes, bananas, pineapples, eggs, and goat meat.

Regarding financing for the sector, Anderson Jerónimo noted that there is still much to be done, adding that in 2025, banks provided loans totaling $3.9 million (€3.2 million). “We believe that we all need to work to increase that number,” he stated. In terms of livestock, the official highlighted a growth of 7.3% in meat production and approximately 5% in egg production.
