US-Russia-Ukraine Geneva talks make “substantive progress” – White House

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated at a press conference on Wednesday (January 18) that the trilateral talks between the US, Russia, and Ukraine in Geneva, Switzerland, had achieved "substantial progress" and that plans were in place for the next round of talks.

Levitt pointed out that both Russia and Ukraine have agreed to report the outcomes of their talks to their respective leaders and will continue to work towards achieving a peaceful agreement.

The two-day talks (from the 17th to the 18th) did not result in any signed documents, but Russian delegation head Vladimir Medinsky described the negotiation process as “difficult but pragmatic.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the three parties demonstrated a constructive attitude at the military level, but differences remained at the political level.
