“As of 5 PM today, approximately 14,000 customers in the most critically hit area were without power, and E-Redes remains focused on restoring electricity supply,” stated a source from the primary company responsible for electricity distribution in mainland Portugal.

In a similar report made early on Saturday evening, E-Redes indicated that 26,000 customers were without electricity supply, of which about 16,000 were from the region impacted by adverse weather conditions due to Storm Kristin.

In the informative note, E-Redes also reiterated its warning for people to stay away from downed or damaged electrical infrastructure and to report the situation to the company (800 506 506 or balcaodigital.e-redes.pt).

The passage of Storm Kristin over mainland Portugal at the end of January left a trail of destruction, particularly in the central region. Since then, in addition to Storm Kristin, the country has also experienced bad weather due to Storms Leonardo and Marta, resulting in a total of 16 deaths and many hundreds of injuries and displacements.

The total or partial destruction of homes, businesses, and equipment, fallen trees and structures, road closures, schools and transport services being shut down, along with cuts to electricity, water, and communications, as well as flooding, are the main material consequences of the storm.
