The slot club, operated by Melco Resorts & Entertainment, ended operations at 11:59 pm on December 29th. According to the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ), all gaming machines were suspended in accordance with regulatory procedures, and the venue’s closure was fully completed later the same day.
Officials from the Labour Affairs Bureau, the Judiciary Police and the Public Security Police were deployed on site to support the closure process. The Labour Affairs Bureau provided assistance to affected employees, including a dedicated support counter to address labour-related enquiries, while the police were responsible for maintaining order inside the venue and in the surrounding area.
The closure comes as Macau’s three-year transition period for satellite casinos and related gaming venues draws to a close at the end of this year. Under the current regulatory framework, gaming operators are required to either cease operations at such venues or transition to approved management or ownership structures.
Melco had earlier applied to the Macau SAR Government to continue operating three of its existing slot clubs through a management company model. The venues concerned are Mocha Golden Dragon, Mocha Porto Interior and Mocha Hotel Sintra. The application was approved by the government, allowing these three slot clubs to continue operations beyond the end of the transition period.
Mocha Hotel Royal was not included in the approved list and has therefore ceased operations in line with regulatory requirements.
