The latest arrest was made on Wednesday, December 24th, nearly a month after the blaze. According to local media reports, the suspect is a 48-year-old man arrested in Tin Shui Wai. He is the person in charge of a subcontractor responsible for external wall works at the residential building. The man has since been released on bail pending further investigation.
Police had earlier arrested 15 people — 14 men and one woman — on suspicion of manslaughter in relation to the same incident. Those detained range in age from 40 to 77 and include individuals linked to the main maintenance contractor for Hong Fook Court, engineering consultants, and subcontracting companies involved in the works at the site.
The case is being handled by the New Territories North Regional Crime Unit, as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the fire and potential liabilities arising from the renovation and maintenance works at the building.
