Macau gaming operator SJM Resorts said in a statement on December 2nd that Casino Fortuna will close at 11:59 p.m. on December 9th. All gaming tables and slot machines will be transferred to other casinos within the group. The company said customer rights would be safeguarded, noting that from December 10th, patrons holding chips, deposits or accumulated cash-back balances may proceed to other SJM casinos for follow-up arrangements.
Authorities said they have activated coordination and oversight mechanisms to ensure the shutdown is carried out in accordance with the law while protecting the rights of both staff and players. The government confirmed that a total of 553 employees will require placement and support during the transition.
SJM Resorts said local employees will be retained and reassigned to other venues where needed, while locally hired staff not originally employed by SJM may apply for suitable vacancies within the group. These applicants will receive priority consideration under the same conditions, and relevant departments will provide assistance to ensure a smooth manpower transition.
Casino Kam Pek Paradise officially ended operations at 11:59 p.m. on December 1st. The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) launched shutdown procedures immediately afterwards and coordinated cross-departmental efforts to clear the premises. Public Security Police and Judiciary Police maintained order on site, while the Labour Affairs Bureau deployed officers to address employee enquiries. Authorities described the overall process as smooth.
The DICJ said it will continue working with concessionaires and government departments to maintain the healthy and orderly development of Macau’s gaming industry.
