In its second edition, C-PLPEX will showcase two robot dogs from Deep Robotics, a Chinese innovation company founded in 2017. These are “well-developed products” capable of assessing situations in fire scenarios, explained a representative from BPS Global Group, the agent for Deep Robotics in Australia, Hong Kong, and Macau.
Wong highlighted that the company’s priority is Macau, but it may also explore opportunities in other regions.
“We need to find out if Portuguese-speaking countries are interested and if the parent company has any projects for expansion and which Portuguese-speaking countries,” the representative added during a visit to the fair site, which runs until Saturday.
Deep Robotics will be among nearly 500 exhibitors from China and Lusophone countries present this year at C-PLPEX. Of these, 320 are from the Lusophone world, representing a “23% increase compared to the first edition,” announced Che Weng Keong, president of the Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM).
“One-third are from Brazil, one-third from Portugal, and the rest from other Portuguese-speaking countries,” Che added. According to Che, the stands focus on “priority areas of Sino-Lusophone cooperation,” such as “cross-border e-commerce, new energy, agricultural industry, food and beverages, professional services, and blue economy.”
Additionally, this year will see the inaugural International Agricultural Expo China-Lusophone Countries. The decision to launch this new exhibition was influenced by Brazil’s significant agricultural production.
Brazil is a large country linked to food production, and considering this, we decided to hold this exhibition. Within China, this agricultural sector is very advanced and can have a good relationship with Portuguese-speaking countries,” justified the IPIM president.
Alan Ho, coordinator of C-PLPEX, noted that bringing “many people” from the Lusophone world and inland China to Macau is “crucial to promote Macau’s platform.”
China established the Macau Special Administrative Region (SAR) in 2003 as a platform to enhance economic and trade cooperation with Portuguese-speaking countries and created the Macau Forum in the same year.
The forum includes, in addition to China, the nine Portuguese-speaking countries: Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, East Timor, and, since 2022, Equatorial Guinea.
In a “sporting and cultural touch” to this fair, Alan Ho continued, “this year, for the first time in Macau, the yellow jersey number 10 worn by Pelé in 1962 during the World Cup will be displayed.”
The second edition of C-PLPEX will take place simultaneously with the 30th Macau International Fair (MIF) and the Macau Franchise Expo 2025. Together, the three events will occupy nearly 30,000 square meters and gather over 1,100 exhibitors.
The IPIM invited Guangzhou’s capital, Cantão, as a partner city for the MIF and will organize more than 50 economic and trade promotion sessions, including regional cooperation forums and conferences.
“Several renowned companies have already confirmed commercial partnerships to be formalized during the three events, with significant contracts expected to be signed (…) aimed at accelerating the development of sectors such as ‘big health’ and technology,” the IPIM president noted, citing the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca as an example.
Portuguese companies Prio Energy and Porto de Sines will also be represented in Macau, it was announced.
