Exploring Visitor Sources Together

The meeting was attended by Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), Zhang Yimin, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangdong Province, and Dane Cheng, Executive Director of the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB). The discussions included an assessment of the joint tourism promotions carried out last year between Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau, as well as the planning and promotional actions for 2024.

Key measures discussed included continued joint participation in major international tourism fairs in the three regions and the production of television programs to be broadcast on relevant platforms in the Southeast Asian market. These initiatives aim to leverage the unique tourism resources of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau to explore visitor markets beyond Guangdong Province and overseas.

Building a Regional Tourism Brand

Established in 1993 by the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangdong Province, HKTB, and MGTO, the Regional Tourism Promotion Organization of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau has the objective of advancing work plans, strengthening dialogue and cooperation, and jointly promoting the regional tourism brand by capitalizing on the complementary advantages of the three regions. MGTO has assumed the rotating presidency of the organization for the year 2024.

Continuing to Promote Multi-Destination Itineraries in the Greater Bay Area

Furthermore, the tourism authorities of the three regions conducted the first overseas tourism promotion of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area in Bangkok, Thailand, in October of last year. The initiative aimed to attract Thai visitors to explore multi-destination itineraries in the region.

During the event, a comprehensive thematic tourism website (https://www.discovergreaterbayarea.com/eng/index.html) showcasing approximately 90 tourist attractions and experiences in the cities of the region, as well as selected tourist routes, was launched. Moreover, a new promotional video for tourism in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area was unveiled.
