The Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office of the State Council and the Central Government Liaison Office welcomed the unanimous approval of the amendment to the Law on Safeguarding National Security on Thursday.
In a statement, the State Council mentions that the amendment to the bill “is of great significance to fully and accurately implement the principle of One Country, Two Systems.” The revised bill will “better safeguard national sovereignty, security, and development interests, maintain Macau’s long-term prosperity and stability, and safeguard the fundamental interests of the Macau residents.”
The Central Popular Government’s Liaison Office in Macau said the unanimous approval of the amendment to the Law on Safeguarding National Security “is conducive to further preventing and punishing criminal activities endangering national security, further safeguarding the rights and freedoms of Macau residents, and maintaining a sound business environment in the Macau SAR.”
