East Timor and the World Bank sign agreement for the education sector

The agreement signed Wednesday between the Timorese Government and the World Bank to support Education has a value of 23.55 million dollars (21.7 million euros) and will benefit 150 thousand students and teachers.

The project, which the Council of Ministers approved, is part of a package of new World Bank projects in Timor-Leste, worth 48 million dollars (44 million euros) for improvements in water supply, in the sanitation network and education in Timor-Leste.

In the case of the education sector, the project aims to “strengthen and transform basic education”, with new and updated classrooms, school facilities and higher quality of teaching.
