The images of Brazilians dressed in green and yellow breaking windows and entering the Planalto Palace reached the United States as echoes of a recent past lived on American soil.
Media coverage drew clear parallels between what happened at the Capitol on January 6, 2021 and what was seen on January 8, 2023 in Brasília, as well as similarities between Trump and Bolsonaro. But the interpretation of the facts that occurred was quite divided, mirroring the accentuated polarization that can be seen in both countries.
While media such as the New York Times and Washington Post have examined the entry into the three powers as an invasion and a threat to democracy, highlighting the links between Trump and Bolsonaro, the media on the fringes have given their audience a different picture of reality.
