China reaffirms its commitment to the fight against climate change

China yesterday reaffirmed its commitment to the fight against climate change. But there are those who are not fulfilling either the targets or the promises made to developing countries, especially with regard to the protection of tropical forests, a fundamental part of the decarbonisation of the planet.

“China’s determination to actively participate in governing the world’s climate will not retreat, much less change,” said Chinese envoy Xie Zhenhua after the leaders’ summit held at the 27th Conference of the Parties (COP27) of the Convention on United Nations on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which takes place in Sharm el-Sheikh. Rising tensions between the US and China, the world’s two leading polluters, have created fears about the dynamics of the fight against global warming. On Monday, the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, had called on them to assume their “particular responsibility”.

Xie also referred to China’s actions against global warming, citing the continued fall in solar panel prices, its place as the number one electric vehicle manufacturer or the drop by half, since 2005, in the intensity of emissions related to gross domestic product. .
