Demographic statistics: less population, fewer births but more deaths

At the end of September, the population of Macau was 671,900 people, 5,400 less than at the end of June, mainly due to the decrease in the number of non-resident workers.

The difference between the female and male population was 53.2%, with the Statistics and Census Services registering 357,200 women.

During the third quarter, there were 1,038 births, 51 more in quarterly terms.

Interestingly, 564 live births were male, corresponding to a ratio of 119 boys for every 100 girls.

But in the first three quarters of the year, 3,203 live births were born, 531 less than in the same period in 2021.

There were 562 deaths in the quarter, 77 less in quarterly terms.

Tumors continue to be the leading cause of death, followed by diseases of the circulatory and respiratory systems.

In the first three quarters, there were 1,814 deaths, 102 more than in the same period last year.

In the quarter under review, the number of individuals from Mainland China who recently arrived in Macau holding “Single Safe Conduct” rose by 619 in quarterly terms.
