Xi Jinping visits Yan’na, stresses Party’s “founding spirit”

Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, emphasized promoting the great founding spirit of the Party and the spirit of Yan’an, a former revolutionary base in northwest China’s Shaanxi Province, and the struggle in unity to fulfill the goals and tasks established by the 20th National Congress. Xi was joined by Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang and Li Xi, members of the Politburo Standing Committee, on his visit to the historic site last week.

Xi and the other leaders’ first stop was the site of the CPC’s Seventh National Congress. The congress held in 1945 has a landmark significance in the CCP’s history, because “this is when the Party became more mature in a political, ideological and organizational sense,” Xi said. “Politically, the whole Party was united under the banner of Mao Zedong, and ideologically, the guiding role of Mao Zedong Thought for the whole Party was established and Mao Zedong Thought was incorporated into the Party Statute,” Xi said.

Then they visited the former residences of Mao Zedong and other revolutionaries of that generation. Comparing the revolutionary sites in Yan’an to “a book worth reading forever,” Xi said they “served as witnesses to the Party’s glorious journey in leading the Chinese revolution and exploring ways to adapt Marxism to the Chinese context.” and to the needs of the times during the Yan’na period”.
