With each intervention, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urges allies to continue to send weapons to help Ukraine respond to the Russian invasion. But alarms are sounding in the West, with indications that the US, Germany or France may be running out of weapons or ammunition not only to send to Kiev, but also to defend themselves if they find themselves involved in a conflict. A problem that will also be affecting Russia.
According to an analysis by the Center for Strategic and International Studies, quoted by AFP, some US reserves are “reaching the minimum levels necessary for war plans and training” and returning everything to pre-invasion levels could take years. Washington is Ukraine’s biggest arms supplier, having provided more than $16.8 billion in military assistance to Kiev.
