Leftist leader says he will not abandon politics, but that the pandemic brought him down

Former Uruguayan President José “Pepe” Mujica, 85, resigned on Tuesday (20) from his seat in the Senate, in a gesture that marks his retirement from public office, but not from politics.

The coronavirus pandemic precipitated the decision of the former president, who ruled the country from 2010 to 2015. He said he suffered from an autoimmune and chronic disease, but did not disclose which one.
