Beijing’s gambling campaign sparks race for casino cash

Fears of a new Beijing campaign against gambling outside the jurisdiction of the Interior, which will include Macau, sparked a race for deposits at casinos and gambling companies, also known as junkets.

According to an article published yesterday by the Reuters news agency, it all started after the Central Government in July identified capital transfers outside the Interior as a risk to national security. In view of the position taken by Beijing, the agency speaks of an “unprecedented” rush by customers to raise money from junkets in Macau and in particular from the Suncity Group.

However, the race for deposits was not limited to the companies responsible for bringing VIP players, there was also a race to exchange the chips for money with the operators, which in response to the unexpected situation are limiting the amount of chips that can be exchanged for money.
