A judge in the state of Espírito Santo, Brazil, authorized abortion, under the terms of the law, to a year-old child who was the victim of continued rape by a family member. The girl is hospitalized
The State Department of Health of Pernambuco confirmed that the procedure for terminating the pregnancy of the 10-year-old Espírito Santo child, a victim of rape, was completed on Sunday night, 16. The girl remains hospitalized at the Integrated Health Center Amaury de Medeiros and the picture her health is stable.
In a note, the secretariat informs that it follows the current legislation in relation to the termination of pregnancy (when there is no other way to save the woman’s life, when it is the result of rape and in diagnoses of anencephaly), in addition to the protocols of the Ministry of Health for performing the procedure, offering the victim emergency, comprehensive and multidisciplinary assistance.
He also stressed that, “in relation to the case cited, it is important to emphasize that there is judicial authorization from the state of Espírito Santo ratifying the termination of pregnancy.
