African Women’s Day

Helena Brandão*

Another date, another day set up to remember what goes wrong in the society where we operate, whatever the area of the world.

When 58 years ago, on July 31, 1962, in Dar-es-Salam, Tanzania, at the Conference of African Women, this day was consecrated for the World to reflect on the role of African women in society, it would probably not be thought that, almost six decades later, there would still be a long way (which could take as many decades) to go, so that African women win the struggle they are waging and that they are finally recognized as capable of playing an important role in the success and aggrandizement of Africa.

Along the way and as a result of the struggles waged, many victories have been achieved that can now be seen: economic independence, positions of decision and power, which have contributed a lot and have contributed to the success of their countries and of themselves in their condition as women and above all African women.
