China plans network of airports in the region

A plan released by the State Civil Aviation Administration provides for the construction of an airport network in the Greater Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau area. The project, which sets goals until 2035, also foresees efforts to raise Hong Kong’s status as an international aviation center

China plans to complete the construction of a world-class airport network in the Greater Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau area by 2025. According to a plan released yesterday by the State Administration of Civil Aviation and quoted by China Daily, the objective is to “continue to lead the civil aviation sector in global terms, in terms of scale, competitiveness and innovation capacity”.

The plan will be developed in two phases. The first will start in 2022 and culminate in the construction of infrastructure in 2025. In between, priority will be given to the definition of interregional and mutual support policies between the cities of the Greater Bay.
