Chief Executive calls for proposals to recover economy

Anticipating that the Macau economy “will continue to face“ great pressure in the second half of the year ”, the Chief Executive, Ho Iat Seng, called on“ all sectors of society ”to present“ actively ”proposals with in view of Macao’s post-pandemic economic recovery – “important task” that the Government has in hand.

The appeal was launched at the plenary meeting of the Council for Economic Development.

Speaking at the opening, the Government leader pointed out that the COVID-19 pandemic has revealed, “once again”, the problems of Macau: “excessive dependence on the gambling sector and the lack of economic resilience”.

In this sense, Ho Iat Seng argued that “it is necessary to speed up the reflection on the direction and the concrete measures for the optimization of the economic structure of Macao, promoting the adequate diversification of the economy and putting it into practice”.
