Pentagon denounces Chinese military exercises in the South China Sea

The Pentagon on Thursday denounced Beijing’s military exercises off an archipelago in the South China Sea, an action it considers “destabilizing the situation in that region even further.”

“The Department of Defense is concerned about China’s decision to carry out military exercises in the Paracel archipelago, in the South China Sea, between July 1 and 5,” the Pentagon said in a statement, quoted by AFP.

According to the Americans, these activities “further destabilize the situation” in that area that is claimed by China, but also by Vietnam and Taiwan.
