Regina Duarte minimizes dictatorship and says that she won’t resign


The actress, known for her participation in famous soap operas, assumed the position of Secretary of Culture of Brazil in early March.


The Special Secretary of Culture of Brazil, Regina Duarte, minimized censorship and torture during the dictatorship that prevailed in the country between 1964 and 1985, and stated that Covid-19 “brought an unbearable morbidity”.


“If we keep collecting things that happened in the 60s, 70s, 80s, we will not go forward. (…) There was always torture, I don’t want to drag a cemetery. Stalin, how many deaths? Hitler, how many deaths? If we we are dragging these deaths … I don’t want to drag this cemetery, “said Regina Duarte, 73, in an interview with CNN Brasil on Thursday.
