President Trump earned $1.2 billion from crypto ventures in 2025

Despite the token's market volatility, Trump's intensive foray into the digital asset industry is cited as the primary reason for a near-tripling of his personal net worth. According to Forbes magazine estimates, the President's personal fortune surged from $2.3 billion to $6.5 billion between 2024 and 2026

U.S. President Donald Trump recorded approximately $1.2 billion (€1.05 billion) in income from his activities in the cryptocurrency sector in 2025, according to calculations compiled by Agence France-Presse (AFP).

The financial figures surfaced following the release of a mandatory 927-page financial disclosure document published by the Office of Government Ethics (OGE). Under a 1978 federal ethics law, both the President and Vice President are legally required to publicly declare their personal income and assets annually.

According to the analysis of the filings, the American head of state received around $550 million (€482 million) stemming from his connection to World Liberty Financial (WLF). The decentralized finance start-up was co-founded in September 2024 by Donald Trump’s sons alongside Steve Witkoff Jr., the son of the U.S. special envoy to the Middle East.

World Liberty Financial initially generated its massive revenue through the initial sale of its native cryptocurrency token, WLFI. However, since its public listing in September 2025, the digital asset has experienced a sharp decline, plummeting from an initial trading price of 46 cents per unit down to its current value of just six cents.

Despite the token’s market volatility, Trump’s intensive foray into the digital asset industry is cited as the primary reason for a near-tripling of his personal net worth. According to Forbes magazine estimates, the President’s personal fortune surged from $2.3 billion to $6.5 billion between 2024 and 2026.

Furthermore, the Trump family—Donald and his three adult sons—received an additional 22.5 billion WLFI tokens through an intermediary shell company named DT Marks Defi. At current market rates, those remaining tokens hold an estimated paper value of $1.3 billion (€1.14 billion). The platform also expanded its footprint in April 2025 by launching its own algorithmic stablecoin, a digital currency pegged directly to the value of the U.S. dollar.

In addition to WLF operations, Trump’s OGE disclosure registered $635 million (€556.53 million) in licensing royalties from a meme cryptocurrency bearing his name, $TRUMP, which launched just hours prior to his presidential inauguration in January 2025.

As a real estate mogul turned politician, Trump has faced recurring accusations of severe conflicts of interest. Critics have pointed out that the President holds substantial private investments in the electronic currency industry while simultaneously taking executive action to deregulate the broader crypto market, a policy shift that has consistently caused digital asset prices to spike.

The White House heavily rejected any ethical concerns regarding the President’s personal financial gain from the sector.

“Neither the President nor his family have found themselves—nor will they find themselves—in a conflict of interest situation,” stated Anna Kelly, the Deputy White House Press Secretary, in an official statement provided to AFP.

Kelly asserted that Donald Trump has “proudly transformed the United States into the crypto capital of the world,” emphasizing that the actions of the President and his administration are conducted strictly in the best interest of the American people. She heavily criticized the press, stating that “so-called journalists who claim otherwise are simply recycling the same fallacious narrative that Democrats and traditional media outlets have repeated for a decade.”

The financial filing also shed light on the personal income streams of First Lady Melania Trump. Her entries showed earnings exceeding $10 million from a biographical documentary broadcast on Amazon, alongside more than $500,000 (€438,210) in royalties from her memoir, Melania.

President Trump’s wider portfolio included millions of dollars generated from stock holdings in various publicly traded crypto companies, such as the exchange platform Coinbase. He also brought in smaller residual profits from Trump-branded commercial merchandise, including more than $208,000 (€182,300) in sales from custom Bibles sold in a joint partnership with country music singer Lee Greenwood.

Legally, Trump’s assets are currently deposited into a blind family trust administered by his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr. However, the legal statutes governing the trust explicitly dictate that the entity can be dissolved at any given time, meaning the billionaire real estate tycoon could legally resume direct personal control over the assets immediately upon the conclusion of his second term in 2029.

Vice President JD Vance also reported a noticeable rise in secondary income since ascending to the number-two spot in the administration. Vance declared book royalties valued between $1 million and $5 million (€880,000 to €4.38 million) for his bestselling 2016 memoir, Hillbilly Elegy.
