Macau hotel occupancy rate reached 95% in February

The average occupancy rate of hotels and guesthouses in Macau stood at 94.6% in February, a year-on-year increase of four percentage points, according to official data.

Figures from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) show that February’s performance surpassed the 91.6% recorded in January, reinforcing the recovery trend after the sector closed 2025 with an average occupancy of 89.4%.

In the first two months of 2026, the cumulative average occupancy reached 93.1%, up 2.4 percentage points compared to the same period in 2025, with the total number of guests in the two months reaching 2.47 million.

Despite the high occupancy rate, the organized tour segment showed signs of slowing in February, with an 8.6% drop to 134,000 visitors.

Unlike in January, hotel establishments recorded an actual increase in guest numbers, welcoming 1.22 million people, up 10.1% year-on-year.

The mainland China market (955,000 guests) and Hong Kong (124,000) grew by 11.8% and 6.6%, respectively. In contrast, international guest numbers fell 5.7% to 81,000, with the Japanese market recording a sharp decline of 32.5%.

However, the number of guests from the South Korea (30,000) and Thailand (6,000) increased by 1.3% and 0.6%, respectively.

Attracting more international tourists remains a key goal repeatedly emphasized by Macau’s tourism authorities.

Officials had set a target of more than three million international visitors for 2025, but the final figure reached 2.76 million—still a 13.7% increase compared to 2024.

Overall, in the first two months of 2026, Macau welcomed 7.82 million visitors, up 15.1% year-on-year, with international arrivals reaching 479,301, an increase of 6.8% compared to the same period last year.
