US president Donald Trump assured today that there is “practically nothing left to strike” in Iran following the Washington and Tel Aviv attacks on the Islamic Republic.

“As soon as I want this to end, it will end,” Trump said in an interview with Axios, predicting the war would be over “soon” — shortly after Israeli defence minister Israel Katz declared that the joint Tel Aviv and Washington offensive would continue “without a time limit.”

“This operation will continue without any time limit, for as long as necessary, until we achieve all objectives and decide the outcome of the campaign,” said Katz, cited by the Israeli defence ministry, during a meeting with military officials.

Trump said on Monday, as oil prices surged, that the war was nearly over — though he later conditioned the end of the conflict on Iran’s unconditional surrender.

The US president also described the war as a “short-duration excursion,” despite having deployed the largest US military force in the Middle East since the invasion of Iraq in 2003.

The 79-year-old Republican also said several times that military operations were well ahead of the four-to-five-week timeline he himself had outlined at the start of the war on February 28.
