Zhai Jun condemned, on Monday, attacks against civilians and expressed Beijing’s deep concern over the rising tensions in the region during a visit to Saudi Arabia.
The responsible party, whose trip had been announced by the Chinese government without specifying the dates, said to Saudi minister of foreign affairs Faisal bin Farhan stated that “the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of Gulf countries are inviolable,” according to a statement released by Chinese diplomacy.
“Promoting peace and ending the conflict is the fundamental solution to the current situation,” declared the Chinese representative. Zhai also appealed “to all parties” to “immediately cease all military operations,” according to the statement.
The diplomat conveyed to his interlocutor that “China will continue to play a constructive role and is willing to work with Saudi Arabia to actively collaborate with all parties and make tireless efforts to maintain peace and stability in the Gulf region.”
Beijing also acted as a mediator in the process that led to the restoration of diplomatic relations between Tehran and Riyadh in 2023.
The Saudi minister stated that “the Middle East is going through an unprecedented crisis, with the flames of war spreading to Gulf countries,” according to the Chinese statement.

“Saudi Arabia is fully aware of the dangers of a conflict escalation and has consistently acted with the utmost moderation,” said Bin Farhan, adding that he hopes “China will continue to play a positive role in promoting a ceasefire.”
China, Tehran’s main commercial partner and largest buyer of its oil, has repeatedly condemned the attacks on Iran by the United States and Israel for “violating the sovereignty” of the Persian country.
