According to the most recent balance, the city of Juiz de Fora continues to be the most affected, with 53 deaths, while in the municipality of Ubá, six fatal victims have been confirmed and two people are missing. The search and rescue teams remain on the ground working in rotating shifts of 24 hours, supported by heavy machinery and search dogs in areas affected by landslides and structural collapses.

At a press conference, Colonel Joselito Oliveira de Paula, from the 3rd Operational Command of Firefighters, warned about the risk of families returning to unstable areas. “People evacuated from risk areas cannot return to those locations,” he emphasized, from the Burnier Park Garden, one of the most affected areas.

According to the corporation, the forecast predicts continued rain, though in a moderate form, which may facilitate rescue operations and the restoration of essential services such as water supply and energy.

Civil Defense data from Minas Gerais indicated that in Juiz de Fora, there are more than 400 displaced persons and 197 relocated persons. In Ubá, there are 38 displaced persons and 321 relocated persons registered. In total, more than 200 people have already been rescued from risk areas.

During a visit to the region, Minister Waldez Góes of the Ministry of Integration and Regional Development announced the indefinite stay of federal teams, including technicians from the Disaster Assistance Group. Teams from the National Force of SUS (Single Health System) and the Unified Social Assistance System are also still active.

The National Civil Defense has recognized the state of public calamity in Juiz de Fora and, in summary, in Matias Barbosa and Ubá. The recognition, published in an extra edition of the Official Gazette of the Union, allows the municipalities to access federal resources for response and recovery actions.
