Under the revised admission scheme, effective from the next academic year, USJ will enrol 160 master’s students and 30 doctoral candidates from the mainland each year. The university’s rector said he hopes that, in future, the student body will comprise roughly one-third from Macau, one-third international students, and one-third from mainland China, in order to strengthen campus diversity and internationalisation.

The announcement was made during USJ’s honorary and postgraduate degree conferment ceremony held on December 6th, where 103 students received their master’s and doctoral degrees. Rector Stephen Morgan formally disclosed the expanded quota during his address at the event.

Founded in 1996, USJ was first authorised in 2021 to pilot the admission of mainland postgraduate students. The latest expansion marks a further step in aligning the university with national higher-education development strategies.
