According to the BBC News, the incident occurred at Partridge Jewellers in central Auckland, where the 32-year-old was arrested shortly after the theft.
The locket, a Fabergé egg adorned with 60 white diamonds and 15 blue sapphires, features an 18K gold miniature octopus inside. It is inspired by the James Bond film “Octopussy,” which involves a Fabergé egg heist.
While the locket has not been recovered, the suspect has undergone a medical assessment and remains in custody. He is scheduled to appear in court again on December 8. Additionally, he faces charges for allegedly stealing an iPad from the same store on November 12 and for taking cat litter and flea control products worth NZ$100 from a private residence the following day.
