The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) said it will supervise the shutdown process to ensure customer interests and employee rights are protected. Casino Emperor Palace will close at 23:59 on October 30, and Waldo Casino will close at 23:59 on October 31.

SJM Resorts said the decision was made “following coordination with the relevant government authorities and the service provider” and that all gaming tables and slot machines at Casino Emperor Palace will be redeployed to other casinos operated by the company.

The company added: “All local employees employed by SJM Resorts will remain employed and be reassigned… to undertake gaming-related roles according to operational needs,”emphasizing its commitment to protecting local employment.

SJM also said customers holding chips, deposits or cash rebates from Casino Emperor Palace may redeem them at other SJM-operated casinos starting October 31, and that “all customer entitlements will be duly honoured.”

Waldo Casino, located near the Outer Harbour area, will also cease operations a day later. In a separate statement, Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) said the closure was due to “business considerations” and had been approved by the Macau government. It said gaming tables from Waldo Casino would be relocated to other casinos under its subsidiary Galaxy Casino S.A.

GEG said team members “will be reassigned to other casinos or non-gaming roles under GEG based on operational needs, with all employment terms remaining unchanged.” The company added it will offer vocational training programmes to support staff transition and job stability.

According to DICJ, 71 employees are currently working at Casino Emperor Palace and 111 at Waldo Casino. The bureau said it is working with the Labour Affairs Bureau to ensure SJM and GEG “fulfil their commitments to safeguard employee rights, including salary, benefits and internal transfer arrangements.”

For customers, Galaxy said valid Waldo Casino-branded chips will still be redeemable at designated counters at Galaxy Macau and StarWorld Casino from November 1.

The DICJ said it will continue to coordinate with the operators to ensure shutdown procedures are carried out responsibly and in line with regulatory requirements.
