The result gave New Hope three lawmakers, up from two seats secured four years ago. Newcomer Chan Hao Weng and incumbent Che Sai Wang will join 68-year-old Coutinho, a legislator since 2005, on the New Hope bench.
Residents cast their ballots to choose 14 directly elected lawmakers, while 12 seats will also be filled today through indirect suffrage by associations. The remaining seven of the 33-seat legislature will be appointed by the Chief Executive.
