Casino Grandview to close July 30th under SJM restructuring plan

SJM Resorts announced that the decision to close Casino Grandview was based on overall business planning and commercial considerations. The company confirmed that all gaming tables currently operating at the venue will be relocated to other SJM casinos, ensuring continued service to patrons.

To safeguard customer interests, SJM stated that guests holding unredeemed chips, deposits, or cash rebates from Casino Grandview may redeem them at the cage of Casino Casa Real, located on Avenida do Dr. Rodrigo Rodrigues, starting from July 31st. The company has pledged to honour all customer entitlements in full.

On the employment front, SJM emphasized its commitment to protecting local jobs. All local employees directly hired by the company will remain employed and be reassigned to other SJM properties. For the seven staff members hired directly by Casino Grandview, which is not owned by SJM, the company will offer priority in hiring for available vacancies and provide necessary support to facilitate their transition.

The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) confirmed the closure, stating that it had coordinated with SJM regarding the execution of shutdown procedures and would closely supervise the process to ensure legal compliance and operational stability. DICJ inspectors will oversee the onsite procedures, including the handling of gaming chips, cash, and related items.

Under the revised gaming regulations introduced by Law No. 7/2022, satellite casinos must either be brought under direct ownership by concessionaires or cease operations by December 31st, 2025. The closure of Casino Grandview marks one of the earliest such exits ahead of the transition deadline.

DICJ is also working with the Labour Affairs Bureau to ensure that the employment rights and benefits of the 159 workers stationed at Casino Grandview under SJM are upheld, in line with commitments made by the company.

Authorities reaffirmed their intention to continue cooperating with concessionaires and relevant government departments to support the healthy and orderly development of Macau’s gaming industry.
