Sands Cares Ambassadors help assemble emergency response kits at Macau Red Cross headquarters June 4. They packed a total of 1,500 kits, aiming to enhance the community’s awareness and precautionary measures before natural disasters and during emergency situations.
Programme Overview & Impact
Sands China Ltd. assembled and distributed 1,500 custom emergency kits and hosted six interactive workshops at primary schools in June for its 2025 Sands Cares Disaster Preparation & Emergency Response Kit Programme.
Launched in 2019 in collaboration with Macau Red Cross, the annual initiative has now benefited 7,400 households, strengthening community resilience ahead of typhoon season.
Kit Assembly & Contents
On June 4, 38 Sands Cares Ambassadors gathered at Macau Red Cross headquarters to pack kits designed by Sands China and the Macau Red Cross.
Each waterproof case includes a first aid pack, disinfectant wipes, whistle, rain poncho, KN95 mask, hand towel, glass protection tape, a dual-powered emergency radio with LED flashlight, a hypothermia-protecting blanket, and an official government emergency leaflet.
All items were sourced locally, supporting SMEs and charitable organizations such as Tung Sin Tong and Fuhong Society.
Targeted Distribution
Completed kits were delivered to schools in Macau’s low-lying, storm-vulnerable areas. By placing kits directly into these communities, the programme ensures that both educators and students gain tangible tools and knowledge to respond effectively to natural disasters.
Disaster Preparation Workshops
Between June 16–30, six Macau Red Cross-led workshops took place at Ilha Verde Middle School, Fong Chong School, Macau Kung Luen Vocational & Technical Middle School, Sun Wah School, Escola Hoi Fai, and Escola Oficial Zheng Guanying.
Through games and puppetry, students learned about past Macau disasters, home preparedness, emergency shelters, reliable information channels, and proper relief measures—reinforcing early disasterreadiness education.
Expert Insights
Owen Wong, Deputy Director of Disaster Relief Affairs at Macau Red Cross, noted that climate change increases extreme weather risks. Integrating disaster education into schools “enhances emergency preparedness capabilities” and builds a safer, more resilient Macau community.
Leadership Reflections
Dr. Wilfred Wong, Executive Vice Chairman of Sands China Ltd., highlighted seven years of partnership with Macau Red Cross and thanked the Social Affairs and Education Bureaux for their support. He emphasized that early training in schools, combined with kit distribution, turns corporate responsibility into “tangible warmth” for vulnerable groups.
