As of June 28th, Hong Kong vehicles traveling northbound through the HZMB Zhuhai Port this year have already reached 1,000,000 trips, achieving this milestone seventy-two days earlier than last year.
In the first year of the policy, 960,000 Hong Kong single-plate vehicles crossed through the HZMB port. This number significantly increased to 1,880,000 in the second year, representing a ninety-five percent year-on-year rise. While it took one year to reach the first 1,000,000 vehicle crossings, the second 1,000,000 was achieved in just seven months. Currently, the average daily traffic stands at 5,600 vehicle crossings, more than a three-fold increase since the policy’s early stages.
Since the implementation of both “Northbound Travel for Macau Vehicles” in January 2023 and “Northbound Travel for Hong Kong Vehicles” in July 2023, the total number of Macau and Hong Kong single-plate vehicles entering and exiting via the HZMB port has surpassed 6,350,000.
In the first half of this year, the port’s vehicle flow reached 3,270,000, a twenty-eight percent year-on-year increase. The highest single-day record reached 28,000 vehicle crossings, setting a new peak four times in a row.
To manage the growing traffic, Customs has enhanced technological oversight, utilizing non-intrusive inspection equipment and intelligent image review systems to boost efficiency.
Additionally, the “Small Passenger Car Clearance Efficiency Improvement Project” Phase II is underway, gradually upgrading the port’s software and hardware facilities. This expansion aims to further increase clearance capacity, supporting the development of the Greater Bay Area’s living circle.
