Speaking at a State Council Information Office press conference on Monday (May 19th), National Bureau of Statistics spokesperson Fu Linghui stated that China’s overall employment situation remains stable, with the surveyed urban unemployment rate showing a downward trend.
In April alone, the national surveyed urban unemployment rate was 5.1%, a decrease of 0.1 percentage points from the previous month. Notably, the surveyed urban unemployment rate in 31 major cities also stood at 5.1% in April, also down by 0.1 percentage points from March.
Breaking down the figures by household registration, the surveyed unemployment rate for the local registered workforce was 5.2%, while it was 4.8% for the migrant workforce and 4.7% specifically for the migrant agricultural workforce. Additionally, the average weekly working hours for employees in enterprises nationwide was reported as 48.3 hours
