The Grand Canal in Venice, Italy, woke up this Sunday, the 28th, with a huge phosphorescent green liquid stain of unknown origin.
After a complaint from residents, the governor of the Veneto region, Luca Zaia, published a photograph of the liquid that spread through the water.
And soon the police began to investigate what caused the strange color change, although they did not release any official conclusions about its cause.
Tests were carried out, which will now be analyzed and whose results should be announced in the coming days.
The first theories pointed to a maneuver by environmentalists who thus protested against the excess of tourists in Venice, according to the newspaper La Nuova Venezia.
Despite the strange phenomenon, the day went on as normal, with the gondoliers working without any major problems.
This isn’t the first time the Grand Canal in Venice has turned green. In 1968, the Argentine artist Nicolas Garcia Uriburu dyed the water with a fluorescent dye during the 34th Venice Biennale, in an action aimed at promoting ecological awareness.
