The Secretary for Economy and Finance defended, in the Legislative Assembly, that the proposal for a trade union law has characteristics of Macau and dismissed the criticisms related to the fact that the right to strike and collective bargaining is not foreseen. “There was no consensus during the public consultation,” said Lei Wai Nong.
Deputy Ip Sio Kai defended, during the presentation of the bill, that “it is necessary to look at the real situation in Macau” and “discuss the trade union law with caution”. For the also president of the Association of Banks “it is not just because it is in the Basic law that we have to have a union law”.
The Legislative Assembly approved the trade union law proposal, which will now be discussed in the specialty. Pereira Coutinho and Che Sai Wang, both elected from the Nova Esperança list, abstained.
