Millions of residents of the manufacturing hub of Guangzhou in southern China were told Wednesday to get tested for Covid-19, as infections surpassed the 2,000 mark for two consecutive days in the city’s worst outbreak yet.
With local cases across China reaching their highest level since April 30, authorities announced on social media that five districts, which account for more than half of Guangzhou’s population of nearly 19 million, need to undergo mass testing.
