Leong Iek Hou wants to prevent spread to Mainland China

Although no positive cases were detected in the latest round of mass testing, a nucleic acid test performed in less than 24 hours is still required to cross the border into China in both directions. As cases have arisen in Macau, the representative of the Public Security Police Corps Lei Tak Fai yesterday indicated that further negotiations with the Interior authorities will be necessary to once again ease the restriction.

The coordinator of the Infectious Disease Prevention Nucleus Coordinator, Leong Iek Hou, also stressed that anyone who wants to travel by boat or plane to Mainland China needs to present a nucleic acid test done in the last 24 hours before crossing the border. The explanation is related to the need to spread the pandemic. “This measure was implemented because positive cases appeared in Macau and we have to avoid exporting cases from Macau to the Interior.

We need to increase China’s confidence towards people coming from Macau”, she commented.

The doctor also indicated that after three consecutive days of rapid antigen theses and massive testing, the risk of an outbreak has decreased, and that the round that begins today “is to ensure safety”.

On Wednesday, it was confirmed that around 5,600 people did not participate in the mass test, prompting authorities to contact them by text or phone call to warn them that they had to be tested. Of these, 3810 people have not yet taken the test and risk seeing their health code turned red.
