Macau spent more than 600 million patacas (75 million euros) in the 14 rounds of massive testing of the population for covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic, the authorities said today.
In addition to nucleic acid tests, the value also includes the distribution of tens of millions of rapid antigen tests and masks during the recent June outbreak, the head of the New Type of Coronavirus Contingency Coordination Center said at a press conference. Leong Iek Hou.
Macau has registered six deaths and 2,344 infected (793 confirmed cases and 1,551 asymptomatic) since the beginning of the pandemic.
The Chinese special administrative region follows the zero-case policy imposed by Beijing, betting on massive testing of the population and confinements to prevent the spread of covid-19 cases.
Macau has been easing border restrictions, but maintains mandatory quarantines for those who enter the territory, with the exception of those who cross the border from mainland China.
