Israel’s leading health insurer revealed on Sunday that the new coronavirus vaccine from Pfizer / BioNTech was 94% effective in the country, according to a study of more than one million people vaccinated.
According to insurance company Clalit, 600,000 people who received the two recommended doses of the vaccine and an equivalent number of people who did not receive the injection were tested. “There was a 94% reduction in the rate of symptomatic infection and a 92% decrease in the rate of serious illness, compared to 600,000 people who have not been vaccinated,” the company explained in a statement. “The vaccine’s effectiveness is maintained in all age categories, including those over 70,” he added.
Since mid-December, Israel has vaccinated more than 3.8 million people, 2.4 million of whom have already received the second dose. The country of nine million people hopes to vaccinate its entire population over 16 by the end of March.
