Free lounge opens for Shanghai’s delivery riders

Online delivery platform Ele.me and the Bund Finance Center have cooperated to open a lounge especially for the city’s delivery riders, the first of its kind in a local shopping mall.

From 10am to 10pm every day, the lounge offers delivery riders free water, snacks and smartphone battery charging service. More than 200 books are also available to read.

According to Wang Bin, an official with the Bund Finance Center, the lounge is open to all delivery staff in the city, as well as security guards and sanitation workers in the neighborhood.

“We hope to provide more care and warmth for this group,” said Wang. “During the Mid-Autumn Festival, our center handed out 400 mooncakes to delivery riders, many of whom missed family reunions in hometowns because of their work.”

Yang Cai, an official with Ele.me, said that delivery riders also have the chance to showcase their talents in photography, literature and art at the lounge.
