The President of the European Commission is in Portugal to monitor the recovery and resilience program. After the meeting with the Prime Minister, Ursula von der Leyen had nothing but praises for Portugal.

“It is a model on how to set a course”, that’s how the President of the European Commission praised the path that Portugal has traced since the previous financial crisis and what it is preparing to combat the economy that is falling on the country due to the pandemic.

Ursula von der Leyen recalled that long before Europe embraced digital, Portugal came to change its energy mix to more sustainable forms. And the congregation of the bet on digital and the environment are the challenges of the European Union’s agenda.

“There are measures that are made to Portugal’s measure”, guaranteed the European about the agreement that was reached to finance the states for the recovery of economies. Above all, she said, with regard to the maintenance of companies and jobs.

Next to António Costa, with whom she met in São Bento and with whom she had schedulled dinner, Ursula von der Leyen highlighted the role that the Portuguese government gives to the social area in its recovery and resilience plan. She herself is going to be present this Tuesday during the presentation of the plan prepared by Costa e Silva and the one from the European Union, at the Champalimaud Foundation.
