Cape Verde suggests converting debt of 600 M € to Portugal in investments

The deputy prime minister of Cape Verde, Olavo Correia, defended today a “conversion” of the debt of 600 million euros to Portugal in “strategic investments” in the archipelago, under “conditions” that are “of interest” to both countries. .

The position was taken by Olavo Correia, who is also Minister of Finance, after receiving the new Portuguese ambassador in Cape Verde, António Albuquerque Moniz, having stressed that Portugal “is a strategic partner”.

“It is the largest creditor of Cape Verde’s external debt, between bilateral financing and banking operations, we are talking about approximately 600 million euros”, acknowledged the minister, adding that the approach, in the future, involves “reconversion of this debt strategic investments in the most diverse domains ”.
