Early reopening sparked new outbreaks in more than half of the U.S.

29 of 50 American states reported an increase in coronavirus cases this week. It should serve as an example to authorities in Brazil before the country is plunged into an even more alarming situation amid the pandemic

This is the assessment of Ali Mokdad, a specialist in public health and one of those responsible for compiling figures on Covid-19 in Brazil for the IHME, an institute used by the White House as one of the main models during the crisis.

According to Mokdad, American states that took a long time to shutdown or that reopened without the transmission level was reduced are suffering from new spikes of contamination, while regions that quickly and rigorously fulfilled the quarantine managed to control the virus more effectively.
