Italy on Monday counted less than 1000 patients in intensive care, exactly 999, in the first record of its kind since March 10, the day after the confinement decision, Civil Protection said.

The balance also indicates 179 new deaths from coronavirus in the last 24 hours, a number slightly higher than Sunday (165, the lowest in two months), but below 200 victims for the third consecutive day, according to the same source.

The total number of contagions is 219,814, and the number of new cases also continues to decline, with 744 since Sunday, the best figure since the beginning of March.
