The Mayor of Lisbon recognizes that, in recent years, the city has “benefited a lot” from the “millions of tourists”, but that “a social price has been paid”. Indicating that “one third of the city center is occupied with vacation rentals”, Medina writes that “essential workers and their families” were forced to leave the city center due to high incomes.
